Where it begins

Some journeys are measured in miles, others in moments.

Welcome
I photograph whatever makes me stop and look. It might be a place, a person, some wildlife or simply the way the light falls. This is the world as I saw it at that moment.
My story
Featured photograph · No. 05
I was walking through this old passage in Crete when the line between sunlight and shade caught my eye. A simple scene, but one I wanted to keep.

A few notes
Things I have noticed, tried and learnt since picking up the camera.

Behind the camera
I’m Allan Chester, a photographer based in Dorset. I’m new to photography and still learning, but that’s all part of the fun. Every shoot teaches me something different, and I’m always looking for ways to improve and capture images that people will enjoy.
For me, it starts with taking a camera along and paying more attention. I photograph whatever catches my eye: the coast, a street, some wildlife, an old building or a small detail that would be easy to miss. I do not have a fixed style yet, and I am not in a rush to invent one. I would rather keep trying things and see where it takes me.
This site is where I will share the photographs and what I learn along the way. Some will come from proper trips. Others might be taken close to home. The plan is simply to stay curious, keep looking and enjoy the process.
